Extend your Camping Stay on the Kern

Can you camp as long as you want along the Kern River? Are long-term, extended camping stays allowed along the Kern River? These are some questions you might be asking if you are planning to travel through the southern end of the Sequoia National Forest, near Kernville, California. Many tourists and visitors pass through the Kern area on their way from Death Valley, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco. We are conveniently located within this triad of cities, and boy does our topography and geography look a lot different than those cities.

For campgrounds managed on public lands here in the Sequoia National Forest, the local Kern River Ranger District allows stays of up to 14-days, and then you need to move to a new location. Private campgrounds like Kern River's Edge allow more flexibility and extended camping stay options.

Work while you Play!

If you've ever found it hard to leave the Kern River after an exciting, outdoors-filled weekend of play, maybe you should consider an extended stay here. Now that our campground offers power & water hook-ups you can do just that - stay longer! One very positive outcome from 2020 is that more folks are working from the road while traveling and exploring. Could this work for you?

Come experience Fall on the Kern River and create new traditions with family or your friend pod. The pace is slower. The days are sunny and bright. Our river access for fishing and boating is ideal. Evenings are cool and scenic for campfire tales. Our dark skies are spook-tacular!

If you enjoy relaxing by the river, hiking, biking, paddling, fishing and star-gazing, we've got a special little slice of the Kern River's edge that is ideal for you. Ready for Fall camping? Pack now and try working while you play on the Kern! Check out some of our amenities:

Care-for-It

Recreating responsibly includes packing trash bags to leave our wild spaces cleaner than you found them. There is a glass ban in the Sequoia National Forest, so remember to use plastic storage containers, ziploc bags, or bota bags for camping gear and kitchen supplies instead.
