What Amenities Does Kern River’s Edge Campground Offer?

Planning a camping trip to Kernville, California? If you’re looking for a campground on the Kern River that combines the beauty of the outdoors with the comforts that make camping easier, welcome to Kern River’s Edge Campground Retreat.
Located just north of Kernville along the banks of the Kern River, our small, family-owned, private campground is designed for people who want to spend more time outside, slow down, reconnect with the people they came with, and enjoy everything the Kern River Valley has to offer.
We believe camping doesn’t have to mean choosing between being immersed in nature and having the conveniences that make a camping trip comfortable. At Kern River’s Edge, you can have both.
We have spacious RV and tent camping sites, river access, clean facilities, family-friendly recreation, and a friendly and helpful staff that care about our campers and want to create an outdoor experience that keeps them coming back year after year.

A Small, Family-Owned Campground on the Kern River
There is something special about staying at a small, independently owned campground.
Kern River’s Edge isn’t a giant RV resort or a large, impersonal campground. We are a family-owned, private campground in Kernville, California, and our goal is to create a place where families and outdoor enthusiasts can slow down and enjoy the outdoors.
Our campground was built in 1997 around the idea that camping should be about more than simply having somewhere to park an RV or pitch a tent. It should be a place to make memories.
That might mean waking up to the sound of the Kern River, drinking coffee at your picnic table, watching your kids ride their bikes around camp, spending an afternoon fishing, gathering around the campfire, or sitting outside after dark and looking up at the stars.
Our location gives campers immediate access to the Kern River while also putting you close to the restaurants, shops, adventures, and outdoor recreation of the Kern River Valley and Sequoia National Forest.

Kern River Camping for RVs and Tents
Whether you're pulling in with an RV, van or arriving with just a tent and a cooler, Kern River’s Edge offers a variety of camping options.
We have spacious campsites for RVs, trailers, camper vans, rooftop tents, truck campers, tent trailers, and traditional tent camping. A limited number of sites also offer power and water hookups for campers who want a few additional comforts during their stay.
Some campers come for a weekend of adventure. Others come to slow down for several days and enjoy the campground itself.
There is no single right way to camp here.
No RV? No problem! Rent from local companies who set it up and take it down for you when the fun is over!
Direct Kern River Access
One of the biggest amenities at Kern River’s Edge isn't something we had to install.
It's the river. 🌊
Our campground sits directly along the Kern River, giving campers easy access to the riverfront and a beautiful place to enjoy the natural landscape.
Depending on conditions and water levels, the Kern River can be a place for fishing, wading, relaxing along the shoreline, or simply sitting nearby and listening to the water.
The river is also a gateway to many of the outdoor adventures that bring people to the Kern River Valley, including rafting, kayaking, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, climbing, and exploring the surrounding Sierra Nevada.
Please remember that the Kern River can have dangerous currents and changing conditions. Always check current conditions and ask our camp hosts about appropriate areas for river access.

Friendly Camp Hosts Who Are Here to Help
One of the perks of staying at a small, family-owned campground is that you're not just a campsite number.
Our friendly camp hosts live on-site and are here to help make your stay as comfortable, safe, and enjoyable as possible.
Need help finding your campsite? Have a question about the campground or the Kern River Valley? Not sure where to go for your next adventure? Our camp hosts are happy to point you in the right direction.
They're also here when things need fixing. Our hosts help with on-site maintenance, campground upkeep, and keeping things running smoothly, so you can spend less time worrying about the little things and more time enjoying your camping trip.
Keeping Camp Peaceful
Our camp host also help enforces our quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
We know that people come camping for different reasons. Some families have little ones who need sleep, some campers are up early for a day on the river, and others simply want to sit quietly under the stars.
Quiet hours help everyone enjoy the campground, which means no music, generators, or bright lights during those nighttime hours.
Our hosts aren't here to spoil anyone's fun. They're here to help protect the peaceful camping experience that makes Kern River's Edge special.
Firewood & Ice Delivery When the Store Is Closed
Forgot to grab firewood before the camp store closed?
Need some ice for tomorrow's cooler?
Depending on availability, our camp hosts can provide firewood and ice deliveries outside of regular camp store hours, so you don't have to wait until morning to get what you need.
It's one of those little conveniences that can make a big difference when you're already settled into your campsite and the campfire is calling.
A Local Resource, Not Just a Campground Employee
Our camp hosts know the campground, but they also know the area.
They're here to help answer questions, share local information, keep an eye on the property, and help campers have a great experience while respecting the campground, the river, our neighbors, and the surrounding environment.
That's part of what makes staying at a small, family-owned campground in Kernville different.
There's a real person around who cares about the place you're staying.
And we think that's worth something.
Clean Restrooms & Hot Showers
We love the outdoors, but we also appreciate a hot shower after a day of hiking, rafting, fishing, or exploring.
Kern River’s Edge offers restrooms and hot showers for our camping guests. There are two shower houses at KRE; the main shower house with flush-able toilets is located in the center of camp and our second shower house with port-a-potties, located outside of our Camp Store. Showers are quarter operated; we have two cash only quarter machines conveniently located at each of shower house. These amenities make it easier to enjoy a few nights outside without completely giving up the comforts of home.
And because we want these facilities to stay enjoyable for everyone, we ask our guests to treat them with the same care they would their own home.
A little consideration goes a long way when you're sharing a campground.
Potable Water & Dish Washing Stations
We provide designated dish-washing stations throughout the campground to make campsite cleanup easier.
Our dish-washing stations are for washing camping dishes and cleaning fish only. Please do not use them for bathing, washing pets, laundry, or other activities.
When you're finished, please clean up the station and leave it ready for the next camper. A quick rinse and wipe-down goes a long way when you're sharing campground facilities.
You'll also find green water spigots throughout the campground that provide potable drinking water. This water is safe for drinking, filling water containers, and cooking.
We ask campers to use water thoughtfully and help us keep these shared spaces clean. After all, one of the best parts of camping is knowing that the next person can enjoy the same place you just did.
A Campfire at Every Campsite
What's camping without a campfire?
Each campsite at Kern River’s Edge has a designated campfire ring with a metal grate, giving you a place to cook, gather, tell stories, roast marshmallows, and enjoy those long conversations that somehow are better around a fire.
As a private campground with our own campfire permits, campers are allowed to enjoy a campfire safely in their designated firepit year-round, as long as fire conditions and campground rules allow. Be sure to check fire regulations when camping.
Of course, fire safety always comes first. Please keep fires inside your designated firepit, never leave a fire unattended, and make sure your fire is completely extinguished before leaving your campsite or going to bed. Follow any additional fire restrictions or instructions from campground staff.
You're also welcome to bring your own propane BBQ or camp stove and cook at your site.
We offer locally sourced firewood to help protect local trees from pests and disease, so you don't have to worry about hauling your own firewood from home.
Because really, some of the best camping memories happen after the sun goes down, when the fire is glowing, the river is flowing, and everyone gathers around for just one
more story. 🔥
Picnic Tables & Your Own Outdoor Living Room
Every campsite has a picnic table, giving you a place to eat breakfast, play a card game, organize your camping gear, or simply sit back and enjoy the scenery.
One of our favorite things about camping is how quickly a campsite becomes your outdoor living room.
The table becomes the kitchen.
The campfire becomes the gathering place.
The river becomes the afternoon entertainment.
And suddenly nobody is asking what's on TV.

Camp Games & Recreation
Sometimes the best camping memories don't require an excursion.
Guests at Kern River’s Edge can enjoy a variety of campground games and activities, including horseshoes, volleyball, cornhole, disc golf and other games available through the camp host.
Kids can ride bikes around camp, families can challenge each other to a game, and everyone can enjoy a little friendly competition before heading back to the campsite.
We're also a popular destination for families, youth groups, scouts, outdoor education groups, and other organized groups, so there's always a little bit of that classic summer-camp feeling around the campground.
A Pet-Friendly Campground
We know that for many families, camping isn't complete without the furry family members.
Kern River’s Edge is a pet-friendly campground, with guidelines designed to keep pets, wildlife, and other campers safe and comfortable. We have a designated pet area and ask guests to keep pets attended, leashed, and to promptly clean up after them.
The Kern River Valley is also a wonderful place to explore with your four-legged camping companion, from outdoor walks around Kernville to dog-friendly patios and nearby trails.
Just remember that your pup is a guest in the great outdoors too. Wildlife gets to live here, so keeping pets under control helps protect everyone.
A Camp Store for the Things You Forgot
Forgot something?
It happens.
Our on-site camp store offers convenient camping essentials and supplies, so you don't necessarily have to pack everything perfectly before leaving home. We also offer firewood and ice, including delivery options for campers when available.
And if you do need something we don't have, Kernville is just a short drive away.
That's one of the things we love about our location: you can feel like you've escaped into nature without being hours away from the necessities.
Quiet Nights & Dark Skies
One of our favorite campground amenities is something you won't find on a checklist:
Quiet.
Quiet hours at Kern River’s Edge begin at 10:00 p.m. and continue until 7:00 a.m.
During those hours, generators and music are off and lights are dimmed to help preserve the peaceful atmosphere and allow guests to enjoy our dark skies.
This is when the campground changes.
The conversations get quieter.
The campfires glow.
The river keeps moving.
And if you look up, you'll see a whole lot more stars than you probably see at home.
We think that's an amenity worth protecting.
A Convenient Basecamp for Kernville Adventures
One of the best things about staying at Kern River’s Edge is that you don't have to choose between a relaxing campground and an adventure-filled vacation.
We're just a couple of miles north of Kernville, making us a convenient basecamp for exploring the Kern River Valley.
From camp, you can build an entire trip around the outdoors.
Spend a morning rafting the Kern River.
Head into the Sierra Nevada for a hike.
Explore mountain biking trails.
Visit Lake Isabella.
Go fishing.
Take a scenic drive toward the giant sequoias.
Explore downtown Kernville.
Grab dinner after a day outside.
Then come back to camp, light a fire, and do absolutely nothing.
Leave No Trace: An Amenity We All Help Protect
Being out in nature comes with a responsibility.
We love this place because of its natural beauty, and we want future generations of campers to experience the same feeling.
That's why Leave No Trace is an important part of camping at Kern River's Edge.
We ask our guests to:
Pack it in. Pack it out.
Take your trash with you and use the campground's designated trash and recycling areas. Don't leave food scraps, cigarette butts, plastic, or other small pieces of trash behind.
🚶 Stay on designated campground paths and trails.
🦌 Respect wildlife.
🥫 Keep food and trash secured.
💧 Use water thoughtfully.
🌿 Leave natural objects where you find them.
And before you pull out of your campsite, take one last look around.
That tiny piece of wrapper underneath the picnic table? Pick it up.
Those forgotten bottle caps? Grab them.
The cigarette butt that fell into the dirt? Don't leave it for someone else.
Leave No Trace isn't just about protecting wilderness. It's about caring for the places we love and appreciating it by keeping it beautiful and wild.
We believe that when you love a place, you take care of it.
More Than Amenities, It's the Experience
When you're researching Kernville campgrounds, it's easy to compare amenities.
Does the campground have showers?
Does it have RV sites?
Are there fire rings?
Is there river access?
Are pets allowed?
Those things matter.
But we think the best camping experiences are about something bigger.
They're about waking up outside.
About kids discovering something new.
About grandparents sitting around the fire with their grandchildren.
About friends laughing around a picnic table.
About getting away from the constant noise of everyday life.
About learning to be comfortable outside.
About sitting beside the Kern River and realizing you haven't checked your phone in hours.
At Kern River's Edge, we work hard to provide the amenities that make camping comfortable, while protecting the simple outdoor experience that brought you here in the first place.
We're a small, family-owned campground on the Kern River, and we're proud of it.
Come for the river.
Stay for the campground that feels like home away from home.
